Partly Facetious: it's all there in his party's name

06 Jun, 2008

"Our erstwhile Minister of Disinformation?"
"There have been so many, you need to narrow it down."
"One who never tired of his role as a sycophant, who was always more loyal than the king, who didn't even think he needed to be logical in his arguments."
"Isn't that the terms of reference of a Minister of Disinformation?"
"You are being facetious."
"OK, so let me rephrase my question: isn't that the terms of reference of all ministers, especially those who hold that honour during a dictator's rule."
"That's certainly true."
"So who were you referring to when he said our erstwhile Minister of Disinformation?"
"Sheikh Rashid."
"Ah yes, he was even more committed than the average minister during Musharraf's heydays."
"Right, anyway he has left the Lota party."
"Really, that's interesting and what are his plans?"
"He has decided not to contest the bye elections."
"Given that he didn't win when the government of the day was, shall we say, exerting not so subtle influence over the electoral process, he is hardly likely to win now with the opposition in power."
"Right, sensible decision that."
"And he has started his own party."
"What's the name of his one man party?"
"PGMSR."
"That's even longer than APDM."
"Ah, but Sheikh Sahib is a one man show and always was more than a mouthful."
"So what does PGMSR stand for?"
"Please, Give a Ministry to Sheikh Rashid."
