The law enforcement agencies on Friday foiled a dangerous plan of high level destruction in federal capital as they impounded three explosive-laden vehicles carrying about 1,100 kilogrammes explosive, from Dhok Kala Khan area of Rawalpindi and arrested four suspected suicide bombers.
After preliminary investigation three accomplices of the bombers were also detained from different area, police sources said. More than 1,100 Kilogrammes highly explosive material was found in the three vehicles including two Land Cruiser jeeps (500 kilogrammes each) and one Toyota Corolla car (100 kilogrammes). Bomb disposal squad defused the explosive hidden in the vehicles, the sources said, adding that soon after impounding of first vehicle two more vehicles were seized from the same area.
No FIR has been registered so far while the area from where these vehicles were recovered has been cordoned off by law enforcement agencies. The intelligence agencies informed that three explosive-laden vehicles have entered the federal capital. Security was put on high alert in the twin cities and all exit and entry points, besides checkpoints were set up on different roads.
During the course of checking police and other law enforcement agencies found one suspicious vehicle in Dhok Kala Khan area of Rawalpindi and after checking huge quantity of explosive was found, the sources said, adding that soon after tracing the vehicle two more vehicles were found in the same area. Four suicide bombers were detained on the spot and shifted to unknown place for interrogation, the sources said.
Search of the owners of the vehicles bearing fake member plates of Rawalpindi has been started. Police sources said that the explosive recovered from three vehicles is similar to that of used in the car bomb explosion outside the Danish embassy on Monday.
They said that law enforcement agencies have completed the preliminary investigation based on the statements of the detained persons and arrested three more on their information. They said that during preliminary investigation detained persons revealed that one vehicle was set to explode at the presidential camp, the other at Musharraf House and a guest house portion was planned to be blown up by the third vehicle.
After receiving information of explosive-laden vehicles, the Inspector General Police of Islamabad on the direction of Advisor to Prime Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik, declared high alert in twin cities.
Meanwhile, giving details about the recovery of explosive-laden vehicles, Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, A Rehman Malik told reporters that red alert had been declared in Rawalpindi and Islamabad from Thursday with the result that three vehicles carrying explosives were seized while three suspected suicide bombers were also arrested.
