A delegation of the fabric manufacturers and exporters has met with the Federal Minister for Textile, Chawdhry Ahmed Mukhtar in Islamabad appraised him about the high manufacturing cost that has reduced export orders requested to continue three percent Research and Development (R&D) support enabling the industry to sustain.
The Acting Chairman, Pakistan denim Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PDMEA), Ishtiaq Baig in his letter to the Textile Minister explained that Pakistan has become the hub of denim fabric during a short period as one of the leading exporters of reliable and quality denim fabric to the world renowned companies.
As per recent M/S Werner International Bench Mark report on Pakistan Denim sector, the denim industry is classified having most modern technology and state of the art plant and machinery.
Exports of denim fabric have reached the mark of $750 million and producing more than 300 million meters denim fabric annually catering to the 100 percent needs of the local value added apparel industry.
Due to the increasing cost of production in the recent past, the industry is striving hard to survive and the government's R&D support has helped the denim sector to sustain growth and exports. Baig also requested the Minister not to withdraw R&D support on denim fabric enabling the denim sector to compete in the international market failing which, export of denim fabric will collapse.-PR
