Honorary consuls' term renewal sought

10 Jun, 2008

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has asked all foreign diplomatic missions and honorary consulates in Pakistan to get the appointment of their honorary consuls renewed/extended from their respective countries for another five-year term.
"The Islamic Republic of Pakistan... has the honour to state that the appointment period of the Honorary Consuls in Pakistan is for an initial term of five years which may be extended by the appointing State for an additional period of five years on a clear request from the appointing State," stated a letter issued by the Ministry on Monday.
It said: "All the Diplomatic Missions/Honorary Consulates whose Governments have not carried out the renewal of the appointment of their Honorary Consuls are requested to take action as deemed appropriate. "All Honorary Consuls based in Pakistan are requested to forward their extension papers received from the appointing states so as to enable this ministry to update records and reflect the same in the latest edition of the Book of Diplomatic Corps being prepared for the year 2008."
