Swiss franc falls

11 Jun, 2008

The Swiss franc fell against the dollar on Tuesday as the greenback was lifted by comments that suggested the US Federal Reserve could hike rates this year. "Against the dollar, the franc is down because of comments from (Federal Reserve Chairman) Bernanke that the risks to the US economy have diminished and rate hikes are expected," said Clariden Leu's Sandro Baechli.
The franc was trading 0.5 percent lower against the dollar compared to the New York close at 1.0322 per dollar, while the franc was near flat against the euro at 1.6077 per euro. "Against the euro, the franc is flat. The euro is still supported by the expected rate hike by the ECB," Baechli said.
