Pakistan Academy of Letters held a meeting at its premises on Wednesday to condole the death of two eminent Russian writers Ghinghis Aitmatov and Rimma Kazakova. Chinghis Aitmatov is regarded as trend setting fiction writer, while Ms Rimma Kazakova was a prominent poet.
The two writers have received overwhelming praise from literary critics from many languages. Chairman PAL, Iftikhar Arif in an obituary note has described their death as loss for Russian people as well as for the people of Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, he said their works have been a number of writings of these two writers have already been translated in many tongues.
About Rimma Kazakova he said she had translated Faiz Ahmad Faiz in Russian language, keeping Faiz's meter and rhythm. The Academy's Director General Zaheerud Din Malik, also joined the Chairman in offering his tribute to the two Russian literary figures and said Russia had lost two precious jewels.
