Budget termed as most apposite

Hailing the Punjab Budget for the financial year 2008-09 as most apposite, public-friendly and financially most balanced document aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the downtrodden and facilitating healthcare, education, agriculture, industrial and social development sectors, Senior Minister Riaz Ahmad said that the goal of poverty alleviation would now be achieved through Punjab budget 2008-09.
He said here on Monday that the government has prioritised the welfare and uplift of remote areas, and the development funds have been arranged for the people living in far-flung areas. He appreciated the colossal allocation of Rs 11.30 billion for the irrigation sector and observed that without improving the irrigation system the dream of agricultural self-sufficiency cannot be materialised.
He hailed special programmes for betterment of poor segments of the society and observed that Rs 17 billion allocation would help in alleviating poverty. The Punjab government has prioritised the provision of judicious legal system and education to all because rule of law and education are the key to develop human societies, concluded the minister.
