The Punjab government has decided to set up task force on essential items at district level to maintain supply of essential items, controlling prices and adulteration. This was decided in a meeting of Chief Minister's Task Force on essential items. Chairman Task Force S.A Hameed presided over the meeting.
Secretary Industries Tahir Shahbaz and various district coordination officers also attended the meeting. Chairman Task Force S.A. Hameed said that toll free telephone would be installed at district level for consumers to lodge their complaints regarding quality, price and availability of essential items and task force would be duty bound to inform them about the action taken on their complaints.
He said that DCOs of the respective district would be the head of the task force while representatives of Chamber of Commerce, Anjaman-e-Tajiran, retailers and NGOs would be the members.
S.A. Hameed said that DCOs would send their report regarding prices and supply of commodities on weekly basis to the provincial office of the task force. He instructed the DCOs to activate their line departments especially market committee and all possible steps should be taken for smooth supply of commodities at reasonable price to general public. During the meeting, prices and supply of fruits, vegetables and other daily use items in different districts of the province were also reviewed. DCOs of Sahiwal, Multan, Lodhran, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah and Muzaffargarh also attended the meeting.
