The Estate Management Directorate of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has retrieved 40-kanal of land worth Rs 400 million at Johar Town, after demolishing illegally built 200 huts, squatters and houses. An LDA spokesman said on Tuesday that the Estate Management Director and a senior officer of the authority personally supervised the operation and ensured ejection of all illegal occupants.
The Directorate's staff faced resistance from inmates initially though the operation went on well. Later, a clean-up operation was also carried out from Social Security Hospital on Multan Road to Ravi Block Allama Iqbal Town, razing three illegally set-up furniture showrooms, five 'chapper' hotels, nine 'khokas' and more than 20 concrete sheds. Two houses each measuring two kanals were also retrieved in the Garden Block, Garden Town, from protracted illegal occupation.
