22 Jun, 2008

Provincial Assembly Saturday demanded termination of concurrent list, lifting of ban on inter-provincial movement of wheat across the country and payment of royalty on water to NWFP. These demands were made through separate resolutions tabled jointly by six MPAs and passed by the house unanimously.
Speaker NWFP Assembly, Ikramullah Khan was chairing the budget session of provincial assembly. The resolutions were moved by Provincial Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar, Qalander Lodhi of PML(Q), Sikander Sherpao of (PPP), Pir Sabir Shah of PML(N), Hafiz Akhtar Ali of (JUI)F and Abdul Akbar Khan of PPPP.
The movers of the resolution observed that according to constitution of 1973, concurrent list had to be terminated in 1983 after ten years of passage of the constitution. In spite of 10 years, the concurrent list is not done away after passage of more than thirty years, the resolution adds.
The resolution pertaining to lifting of ban on wheat movement, read as wheat is being sold at different prices in different areas in the country. Reason behind this, it added, is ban on its movement. The resolution movers demanded of federal government to take up the issue of wheat distribution and ensure its sale at uniform rate.
The third resolution demanded payment of royalty to NWFP on water. The resolution adds that since most of the water, according to water accord, is used by other provinces therefore the province be paid royalty.
