Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Punjab Zone has complained to the Punjab Government that no representative of sugar industry had been included in the committee formed to finalise Punjab Sugar Factories Control Act. This was revealed in an information of the Association here Sunday.
The information adds that spokesman of PSMA while protesting through a letter to Chief Secretary few weeks back said that a meeting had been called which included farmer organisations of Punjab while major stakeholder in sugar business (PSMA) was not included in the Committee.
He said that all stakeholders should be called to give their input so as to finalise the proposed amendments in the Sugar Factories Control Act. The spokesman said that without participation of the sugar industry, being the major
stakeholder in the process of formulation of the law, the law cannot be made comprehensive and transparent to deal with all aspects of sugar and sugarcane issues.
The law should include not only its research and development but sugar prices should also be stabilised vis-à-vis sugarcane prices. Pakistan Sugar Mills Association Punjab Zone as per information has appealed to Chief Secretary for intervention in the matter and advise Secretary Agriculture Punjab to include sugar industry representatives in the committee formed to amend Sugar Factories Control Act.
