Provincial Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs, Dr Tanveer-ul-Islam has said that only those nations survive and prosper, which love their culture. Stage shows will be arranged at district level in order to promote Punjabi culture and folk music, he added.
This was stated by him while talking to mediamen on the occasion of a folk music show arranged by Punjab Arts Council at Open Air Theatre, Bagh-e-Jinnah, here on Sunday. The minister said that despite modern cultural trends and music, the mystic poetry and folk music of Punjab is still popular.
He said it is the prime need of the hour that concerted efforts would be made for safeguarding and promoting our cultural heritage.
He further stated that a comprehensive strategy has been adopted by the Punjab government for encouraging artists and promoting new talent. He said that in addition to musical stage shows, talent hunt programmes are also being arranged in various districts of the province. Renowned folk singer, Arif Lohar along with other artists performed on this occasion and their performance was highly appreciated by the audience. The people demanded that more programmes should be arranged for providing better recreational facilities to the masses. It is worth mentioning that entry in the show was free.
