'PML-N to rejoin cabinet after judges' restoration'

23 Jun, 2008

Former minister and PML-N central leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has said that they would rejoin the federal cabinet after restoration of the deposed judges.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said that the PML-N stance over the judges' issue is very clear, adding that its members had quitted the federal cabinet in protest for not restoring the judges according to the Murree declaration.
To a question about the increase in the number of Supreme Court judges through the finance bill, Saad Rafique said that the number of judges could not be increased without the amendment in the Constitution. The sole purpose of giving approval in the finance bill for 29 posts of judges is conditioned to the restoration of judiciary on November 2 position, he added.
He said the PCO judges will be accepted as ad hoc judges after restoration of the real judges, saying, "It doesn't mean that we have stepped back from our basic demand of restoration of judges."
The PML-N leader said that the PPP also wants the restoration of deposed judges but there is difference only in the mechanism of restoration. He said that both PPP and PML-N are democratic parties and are against the military governments, hoping that PPP would not support the dictator in the country.
