No big change in commodities price structure

Some essential items suffered losses on the commodities wholesale markets while tea moved in different way during the week ended on Saturday, June21, 2008. The traders were, however, generally silent over movement in commodities in local as well as international markets demanding time to reach the background - sugar and tea were suggested when the answer came bluntly.
On Monday, which generally is seen as active day, very few visitors were seen despite rice depicted weakness. Irri 9 low type turned weaker by Rs100 to Rs5,400 while the other type shed Rs300 to Rs4,700, wheat Sindh with old Bandana and new type roe quoted at Rs2,200 while the other type was quoted at Rs2,215. A solo deal in cotton cakes with bag from Sindh new rose by Rs15 to Rs900 while finer quality was quoted at Rs910.
Tea on JB was firmer. Kenyan (per kg) D-1 A grade rose by Rs15 to Rs265, B grade rose by Rs25 to Rs240, plus C grade rose by Rs20 to Rs215 while C grade rose by Rs22 to Rs210. Dust A grade rose by Rs25 to Rs200, Plus C grade was quoted at Rs195. Tea from Bangladesh Garden Pack (original rose by Rs37 to Rs165, Gulab ended higher by Rs20 to Rs165, and Garden Pak BOP rose by Rs25 to Rs160.
On Tuesday, locally some upward trend was marked, while worldwide nothing very shocking reported. In Karachi commodity markets, makai showed retreat which gave in Rs75 to Rs2,000 and guwar low type went down with wide margin by Rs100 to Rs1,800, while better type stayed put.
Wheat with bardana old and new rose by Rs20 to Rs2,220 while the other variety was quoted at Rs 2,235. Irri white shed Rs200 to Rs1,900 while other type was quoted at Rs2,000. Castorseed Lasbela rose by Rs25 to Rs1,150 and Sindh castorseed rose by the same margin to Rs1,025 and the other quality was quoted at Rs1,050.
On Wednesday, Irri Sindh sustained loss of Rs100 to Rs3,700. Wheat old and new with bardana rose by Rs30 to Rs2,250 while the other type was quoted at Rs2,265. Cottoncakes with bag from Sindh low type shed Rs5 to Rs900 while the other type showed no change. Sugar under somewhat world trend turned lower losing Rs50 to Rs2,600 while the other type stayed put.
Elsewhere, milk powder skimmed (per bag of 25 kgs) Skim Pak ended higher by Rs1,000 to Rs5,500. Golden burger ended down by Rs300 to Rs9,100 and Holland rose by Rs1,000 to Rs9,000. Full cream CDL quoted at Rs4,300 and Bright star quoted at Rs6,000. Vegetable Euro Gold ended higher by Rs150 to Rs7,400.
On Thursday, almost all commodities held the overnight levels. A few changes were seen on the cereal side. Urad Burma better type gained Rs50 to Rs1,850 while the low quality did not show any change. Wheat old and new Bardan shed Rs10 to Rs2,240-2,255.
Firmness prevailed on the grain market on Friday as most of the commodity items maintained the overnight levels.
TRADING ON CHEMICALS MOVED BOTH WAYS ON JODIA BAZAAR ON FRIDAY. THE CHANGES WERE:
CHEMICALS (per kg): Caustic soda flakes Saudi ended down by Rs7 to Rs50, sodium sulphate finished lower by Re1 to Rs15, NJ Taiwan edged down by Rs5 to Rs154, formic acid closed higher by Re1 to Rs90, formic acid Germany moved upward by Rs9 to Rs99, oxalic acid China ended higher by Rs4 to Rs80 and citric acid China went upward by Rs17 to Rs96.
PETROLEUM JELLY: Sulphonic acid soft closed up by Rs20.40 to Rs158.40, sulphonic acid Hard (DDBSA) moved upward by Rs20 to Rs155, PVA Japan closed lower by Rs3 to Rs250, Sitara caustic soda flakes closed down by Rs8 to Rs48 and caustic Taiwan edged lower by Rs6 to Rs50.
HYDROSULPHITE: China 88 percent was quoted at Rs121 and Germany moved lower by Rs2 to Rs141.
ACETIC ACID: Taiwan ended lower by 20 paisa at Rs 90.
HYDROGEN PEROXIDEL (35 percent): Taiwan finished up by Rs2 to Rs59, Korea ended higher by Rs1.40 to Rs59.40.
Lean business was seen on Saturday. Most of the buyers kept on the sidelines in the absence of motivating factor. On the rice sector, Irri-6 Sindh lost Rs50 to Rs3,650. Sugar better type followed suit and lost Rs30 to Rs2,750 while low quality did not move any side. On the cereals side, wheat old and new gained Rs10 to Rs2,250 and Rs2,265.
