PPP to accommodate sitting, deposed judges: Naek

24 Jun, 2008

Federal Minister for Law Farooq H. Naek has said that the PPP wants to resolve the judicial issue in a way that both sitting and deposed judges are accommodated. Talking to Voice of America, he pointed out that to resolve the issue the number of judges of the Supreme Court was increased through the finance bill.
He said that coalition partner Pakistan Muslim League (N) had assisted in drafting the bill and it had been approved. "We are going to accommodate sitting judges as well as deposed judges", he said. Naek rejected criticism regarding increase in number of judges of the Supreme Court through the finance bill.
He said that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari wanted sitting judges to continue as they have taken oath under the third schedule of the constitution after December 15. He said that a legal sanction is required for reinstatement of the deposed judges." Hence, we think that an executive order will not be the right way to do it," the Minister said.
