26 Jun, 2008

Poverty and unemployment can be controlled through women empowerment in economic field and the government, in this regard, needs to provide financial assistance to the women through financial institutions so that they could start small businesses even in the towns and small cities.
The Punjab Minister for Population Welfare, Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry, said this while talking to a delegation of women and office bearers of various NGOs, here on Wednesday. Furthermore, She said that a woman needs to be provided job opportunities in government, semi-government and private organisations so that they can play their due role in the development of the country.
She said that the government at federal and provincial levels would fulfil the agenda of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed regarding the empowerment of women folk because no society can make progress without the participation of the women in economic, social and political fields.
Moreover, she said that informative programmes would be initiated under which vocational and practical training will be provided to women and opportunities of maximum employment would also be provided to them so that they could play their proactive role in socio-economic uplift of the country.
