Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has announced additional load shedding in the province due to reduction in power generation due to disruption of gas supply to Wapda Generation System and reduced production of electricity by IPPs due to shortage of furnace oil in the country.
In a press release issued here on Saturday, Pesco says that the power generation has decreased due to disruption of Sui Gas supply to Wapda Generation System as the Sui Gas Transmission Line was blown by some miscreants few days back and due to shortage of furnace oil IPPs have reduced their power generation which has also affected the supply of power, hence the short fall has increased and additional load shedding is being carried out through out the province as in the other parts of the country.
This low generation and excessive usage of energy has widen the short fall in NWFP and at the moment this shortfall has reached to 1044 MW, adds the press release. The current prevailing heat wave also increased the usage of electricity due to which our whole distribution system gets overloaded.
In order to over come this shortfall and to keep distribution system safe and sound from total collapse the NPCC shuts different Grid Stations from time to time, in addition to scheduled load shedding. Peaceful protest is the basic right of public. But road blockade and damaging public property is not the solution of the problem, the solution is the co-operation, observed Pesco.
It requested the public to extend their cooperation and stop unnecessary and illegal use of electricity so that the energy crisis could be tackled. On the other hand Wapda/Pesco ensures public that all right efforts are under way to over come this situation. Pesco's operation & technical chiefs are optimistic that with in few days the situation will improve.
