'Child labour posing threat to health, education'

The situation of child labour is posing threats to the health and education of the children involved. Talking to newsmen here on Thursday.
Pak Social Welfare Society's Executive Director Ghaffar Sheerani highlighted the achievements and steps made by the government for the welfare of children mobilisation around the world against child labour and its worst forms, which reflecting local cultures and customs.
He said the glass bangles, tanneries, coal mining, deep-sea fishing, carpet-manufacturing industries had the trend for hiring child labour and offering hazardous jobs. The areas where children faced inhuman conditions were scavenging, domestic work, bonded labour and beggary, he added.
He said the child labour was a challenge for Pakistan government, and urged all stakeholders and the media to carry out joint efforts to meet the challenge for a better future for children. He also expressed concern over non-implementation of laws against child labour and emphasised the need of public awareness of the issue.
