Sindh Minister for Local Government, Agha Siraj Durrani, has said that action would be taken against 'corrupt' Nazims to ensure smooth functioning of various local government departments. This he said while talking to various delegations from Shikarpur at his residence here on Sunday.
The minister said that due to corruption the present local bodies system has failed to deliver and resolve public grievances. Siraj Durrani said that Local Government Department has received many complaints against various districts, talukas Nazims and action including recommendation for their disqualification will be taken after investigation.
He said that during the tenure of previous government, development funds were looted, plundered and even utilised for personal benefits. Sindh Local Government Ordinance is very clear regarding perks and privileges of local bodies' representatives and exceeding the entitlement is bound for action under the law, he added.
He appealed to people to inform the department about the wrongdoing and corruption of local bodies' representatives, so that action under the rules be taken against them.
He said that the role of media was very important in this regard as they bring social evils and injustices before the masses, through print and electronic media. The minister said that if some Nazims desire to go to court against provincial government, they could do so. We would also present their misdeeds and evidence of their corruption in the court, he added.
