02 Jul, 2008

Parliamentarian from Fata, Munir Aurakzai, urged the government to work for the welfare of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). Talking to private news channel, he said Fata is a neglected area and still deprived of infrastructure, schools and electricity.
Moreover, he said the government needs to invest for eradication of poverty and unemployment to improve the living standard of the inhabitants. He said some criminal elements are operating in the garb of Taliban in tribal areas that is harmful for Pakistan.
The government officials and tribal elders held a meeting for maintaining peace in the area, he said adding that the government was making peace agreements with the locals, but these agreements are not implemented.
The problem of North Waziristan is different from South Waziristan and Kurrum Agency has different problems from Khyber Agency, he added. Pakistan emerged as a frontline state in the war against terrorism in the backdrop of 9/11 incidents and the people of Fata faced its consequences, he added. The government should take issues separately and address them in an effective way, he added.
