Move to resolve canal water issues initiated

The Irrigation and Power Department is setting up offices of Area Water Boards of Lower Chenab Canal, East and West Circles in Faisalabad with an amount of Rs 41.56 million The department has initiated the move to provide an easy access to the farmers of canal commends for resolving their canal water related problems.
The Senior Minister/ Minister for Irrigation and Power, Raja Riaz Ahmad disclosed in a meeting of Farmer Organisations (FOs) of Area Water Boards on Wednesday. The representatives of I&P Department and Pida were also present on the occasion. The minister, while chairing the meeting said that size of the proposed office buildings would be 20,000 sq.ft.
'Instructions have been issued to the irrigation high ups to set up special place for the complainant visiting their offices. Arrangements will be made to provide them with cold drinking water facility along with proper sitting arrangements', he added. Similarly, the construction of small dams in the Barani areas is another priority agenda of the government said the minister.
Further, he urged the members of FOs in the canal commend areas to lend a helping hand to the government in curbing the canal water theft. He also maintained that the department was committed to maintain provision of water till tail-end. The FOs should also work for the rehabilitation and maintenance of canal embankments, the minister stressed.
