Swiss franc rises

03 Jul, 2008

The Swiss franc was higher against the euro on Wednesday as market players turn their attention to the European Central Bank's interest rate decision on Thursday. "At the moment it is a wait for the ECB's interest rate decision," said Clariden Leu's Sandro Baechli.
The franc rose against the dollar on persisting concern that the US economy was heading into a recession or was already there, Baechli said. Expectations that the US Federal Reserve would raise rates any time soon had also weakened, he added.
The franc was 0.14 percent higher against the euro compared to the New York close, trading at 1.608 per euro. The franc rose against the dollar some 0.4 percent to 1.0158 per dollar.
