04 Jul, 2008

The Lahore High Court while releasing 37 kiln workers, directed SHO Saddar Phool Nagr police station to produce remaining six detainees, who, according to the petitioner, were removed from the kiln before the court bailiff reached there.
The court bailiff had produced said kiln workers before the court after recovery from custody of a brick kiln owner Sardar Muhammad Ali Dogar. The petitioner Nazir Ahmad through Mohammad Ramzan Chaudhry advocate said Nawaz Ahmad, Afzal Ali, Mumtaz Hussain and others were being kept in illegal custody at a brick kiln.
The court bailiff informed the court that brick kiln owner Sardar Mohammad Ali Dogar of Phool Nagr, Kasur, had been forcing them to do bonded labour. He added they were being confined on the premises of the brick kiln. Brick kiln owner Dogar contended before the court that the detainees had borrowed Rs 10,00,000 from him in lieu of the labour. The judge observed the owner could file a suite for the recovery of his money but could not keep the people confined.
