Supreme Court disposes of 124 cases in a week

The three registries of the Supreme Court of Pakistan disposed of 124 cases in a week, i. e. from June 28 to July 4, whereas 360 new cases were instituted. Deputy Registrar, Judicial, Bashir Janjua, told Business Recorder that the Supreme Court at its principal seat in Islamabad disposed of 80 cases, Lahore branch registry 31 cases and the Karachi branch registry 13.
Of these 124 cases, 48 were civil petitions, 20 civil appeals, 31 criminal petitions, seven criminal appeals and 18 other cases. He said the backlog in the apex court on June 28 was 16137 cases, as 360 new cases were instituted during from June 28 to July 4, the progressive total of pending cases as on July 4 came to 16,497. He said that a large number of lawyers appeared before the apex court in pursuit of different cases in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.
