Bara operation, question mark on parliament's supremacy: PML-N

05 Jul, 2008

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz central finance secretary Muhammad Pervaiz Malik has said that military operation in Bara is a question mark on the supremacy of parliament. Speaking at a meeting held with Nazim Nazeer Khan Swati in the chair here on Friday, Malik said, "President Pervez Musharraf cannot be allowed to damage national unity under foreign pressure."
He warned that the trend of bypassing parliament on important national issues could prove dangerous for the federation. "PPP is bound to consult coalition partners on all-important issues as bid to impose decisions would give rise to problems." he said. Malik said problems like high inflation, unrest and unemployment are legacy of previous regime and the same cannot be overcome as long as Pervez Musharraf is in the President House. He regretted that Pervez Musharraf instead of accepting defeat of his cronies in the February 18 election is busy in hatching conspiracies against democracy and coalition set up.
Underlining importance of independence of judiciary for promotion of democracy, he said, "fruits of democracy cannot be ensured without rule of law and justice." He said the PML-N is fully aware of people's problems and revolutionary steps taken by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has restored the confidence of masses. He said Shahbaz Sharif is determined to provide every possible relief to the masses and make the province cradle of peace and amity.
