Brazil exported 1.56 million 60-kg bags of green coffee in June, down 13.6 percent from 1.81 million bags in the same month a year ago, the Council of Green Coffee Exporters (Cecafe) said on Friday.
Brazil shipped 1.70 million bags of green coffee in May, Cecafe said in a statement. June shipments included 1.42 million bags of arabica beans, down 14.8 percent from the 1.67 million bags the same month last year. Robusta shipments were steady compared with a year ago at 141,926 bags. Soluble coffee exports were down slightly by 0.7 percent to 286,264 bags from 288,264 bags in June 2007.
Overall, Brazil's coffee exports fell 11.8 percent last month to 1.85 million bags compared with a year ago, while earnings climbed 7.7 percent, to $297.5 million. The council said in a preliminary tally of the 2007-08 commercial year (July/June) Brazil exported 23.86 million bags of green coffee, down 9.2 percent from 26.27 million bags in a year prior.
