Sindh University has started work on its distance learning, off campus and new B.A and M.A external degree programmes. In this connection a meeting was held here on Saturday with Vice Chancellor of the university Mazharul Haq Siddiqui in the chair.
Noted writer and educational expert, Amar Jaleel, Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university and Dean Faculty of Education Dr Parveen Munshi also attended the meeting. Mazharul Haq Siddiqui highlighted features of the University's ongoing off campus and external degree programme.
He said that University has been working to improve its external programme. He informed that under new external degree programme the University registering candidates one year before the examination, besides assigning three assignments to the candidates.
He said that Off Campus programme of the University under faculty of education is another area, which also required efforts to cater the need purposefully. Jaleel underscored that the coming age is of electronic media and e-learning it is more effective for learning instead of class room education. He suggested establishment of study centres at the affiliated colleges for external candidates and development of text material with supporting material of CDs. He also underlined the need of provision of facilities to candidates in terms of computer technology in study centres and information through Radio and Television mediums.
Amar Jaleel agreed to provide assistance to University in development of electronic material and e-books for the external programme and for the purpose he would visit the university two days in every week.
