08 Jul, 2008

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Monday said the D-8 conference will dwell upon the international price hike as a result of steep increase in petroleum prices, adding that inflation and price hike in Pakistan is not due to bad strategy, but it is a global phenomenon.
Speaking to reporters before his departure for Kuala Lumpur to attend D-8 conference, he said, Pakistan was not the only country suffering from rise in petroleum prices but the economies of the developed countries also felt the pinch.
The Prime Minister said, it is not correct to say that inflation and price hike are only denting our economy due to bad strategy of the government adding that it is a global phenomenon. The Premier remarks carry weight as most of the developed countries are experimenting alternate sources of energy to meet the increasing future demand.
Earlier, commenting on the Melody suicide blast, he said that the blast in the capital last night was an act carried out by those who wanted to destabilise the country, it was an act against humanity and had brought bad name to Pakistan. He said, "It's a cowardly act by those who want to destabilise the country and want to malign our religion Islam".
He said the incident took place after the conclusion of the Shuhada Conference at Lal Masjid safely and the participants were appreciative of the facilities the government provided for making this event peaceful.
Answering a question, whether the attack would affect the efforts being made to achieve peace in tribal areas, the prime minister said it was too early to say this and "I can't jump to conclusion straight away." "Let them (law enforcing agencies) complete their investigation to bring the real facts to the fore," Prime Minister Gilani added. He paid tributes to those that lost their lives in the blast and said they fulfilled their duties and protected the people at the cost of their own lives.
