People of many localities of Karachi were deprived of electricity on Wednesday owing to fault in Bin Qasim Thermal Power Station (BQTPS) and disconnection of the supply from Kanupp to KESC.
Almost all major areas including Federal 'B' Area, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Malir, North Nazimabad and North Karachi suffered from prolonged power outages of about 6-8 hours when the difference between power demand and supply reached up to 350 MW, sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday.
It was noted that the Kanupp had been shut down from June 22, and has not yet been restarted. This resulted in disconnection of the supply of about 80 MW from the station to the city. According to KESC officials, the maintenance work of Kanupp is almost complete and it is expected that it would restart shortly.
Bin Qasim Power Station (unit no 6) is still out of order causing the short supply of about 210 mw. The supply was not resumed till filing of this report. According to official statement, maintenance work of the unit had been completed and the unit was expected to resume its operation from Thursday.
