DCOs directed to set up flood control rooms in NWFP

The Relief Commissioner, North West Frontier Province (NWFP), Jameel Amjad on Monday has directed all District Co-ordination Officers (DCOs) to set up control rooms in their respective districts on war footing to monitor day to day flood and other emergency situation in the province. He has also asked to make the control rooms operational as soon as possible.
His directives came in a meeting held to review current floods situation in this monsoon. He also ordered the DCOs to nominate focal persons in this regard. The relief commissioner also asked the concerned authorities to prepare a contingency plan and keep close co-ordination with line departments and army authorities for identification of vulnerable areas.
Further, he advised the concerned authorities to pay compensation to dead and injured persons within three days while for damages to houses within 12 days after occurrence of untoward incidents and also complete all formalities within the stipulated period.
Also he advised to send daily flood situation report to provincial control room on the specified format. He said that rivers Jinday and Kalpani in Charsadda and Mardan respectively have been historically creating problems, therefore, the DCOs of these districts should keep vigilant eye in this respect.
Health, Agriculture and Livestock departments were advised to be vigilant and make necessary arrangement for providing medicine and vaccines during the meeting. The meeting also approved the demand presented by DCOs Tank and DI Khan for provision of 2,000 tents and 2,000 blankets each to these districts while 2,000 tents for District Bannu was also advised.
