Can Inter-faith dialogue be a useful exercise?

22 Jul, 2008

Inter-faith dialogue, a Saudi-organised conference, came to an end and the parties stressed the need for a global accord to curb terrorism, as it has been considered a universal phenomenon. The universal accord should be focused on the following areas to achieve peace in its true sense across the world.
First of all it is the dire need to realise who is using coercion against whom? Who is in power and who has the authority to exploit this? Who has deployed and is planning to use military force against whom? Moreover, the need to redefine the meaning of terrorism? All these questions are needed to be answered, which are the main causes of instability all over the world.
Furthermore, they should highlight who have been the sufferers to a great extent in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine since long. Who used cluster bombs against Lebanese people in Israel-Lebanon war?
Thousands of Muslims have been ruthlessly killed by US and its Allied forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and thousands of Muslims have perished in Palestine and not one international forum is here to save them from this brutal victimisation. These injustices are enough to make people suicide bombers.
Therefore, the accord should focus on how to control misuse of military power against defenceless section of the society. The accord should force US and its allied forces to leave Iraq, Afghanistan forthwith and the status of Palestine should be finalised soon.
In the accord no country should be allowed to destroy the sovereignty of the other country anymore in the name of war on terror. Despite that if any particular country or its allies do this then the members of the accord should take strict and prompt action against the violator.
The concept of hegemony needs to be ended and no country should be allowed to interfere in the affairs of other states. Most importantly, system of accountability is needed to be evolved. Every one should be held responsible regardless of any affiliation or nationalism.
Moreover, I would like to say here the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) needs to be activated. All members should focus on pooling their resources and strengthen themselves in economic, political and social fields. They should start working on a military force just like Nato to protect the member countries.
