Wedding party at district Naib Nazim's residence: intense firing, fireworks trigger panic

Intense aerial firing and fireworks display during a wedding ceremony being held at the residence of former MNA Nawaz Khokhar and District Naib Nazim Afzal Khokhar on late Tuesday night triggered panic in the area adjacent to the Islamabad International Airport. Moreover, some private TV channels aired the news that flights at the airport were cancelled due to the firing.
The residents of Chatri Chowk and Dhok Ladian in Gangal Union Council got scared while huge contingent of police and law enforcement agencies rushed to the area. Police sources told this scribe that the flight schedule of Islamabad Airport was disturbed due to firing and Dubai-bound PIA flight was stopped for some time until the situation was cleared.
The Airport Traffic Control when contacted had not confirmed any delay in flights' schedule. Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) officials also rejected these rumours saying that no disturbance was witnessed at the airport. Airport police said that aerial firing and fireworks were made during a wedding ceremony being held at the residence of former MNA Nawaz Khokhar and District Naib Nazim Afzal Khokhar.
When asked that the police had taken any action against the people involved in firing, the officials said that they fled away. It is pertinent to note that complete ban was imposed by the government on firing and use of firecrackers. But the influential people make fun of the government orders whenever they like.
