While disposing of a petition of District Nazim, Sheikhupura, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has directed the District Police Officer (DPO), Sheikhupura to perform his duty accordance with the provision of Police Order 2002 and Punjab Local Government Ordinance and provide security to the Nazim.
The court also directed the Inspector General (IG) of Police Punjab to look into the complaint of district Nazim against the DPO and issue appropriate orders to deal with the matter.
Earlier, District Nazim, Sahibzada, Mian Jalil Ahmad Sharaqpuri, filed petition against the Chief Secretary, Punjab, and the police officers requesting the court to restrain them from pressurising him. Petitioner said he was elected as Nazim on October 17, 2005 and running affairs smoothly in accordance with the law. After the general elections the MNAs and MPAs of PML-N started campaign against him with the help of DPO.
A no-confidence motion was initiated against him, which was not succeeded and later another motion was moved in July after that the DPO withdrew police squad from his office only to pressurise him, the petitioner added. He, therefore, prayed to the court to restrain the Chief Secretary Punjab and others from interfering in the affairs of local government and manoeuvring the no-confidence motion against him.
