If the PM of Pakistan could not deliver his maiden address to the nation, without the approval of his party co-chairman Asif Zardari, then prudence and propriety demanded that the party head should have been present in the country, instead of making the whole nation wait and making a mockery of the office of PM.
Everybody in Pakistan knows the importance of Zardari, there is no doubt that he, along with Mian Nawaz Sharif, Afsandyar Wali are the real power brokers. However, there needs to some element of maturity built in, so that people with power don't have to be seen throwing their weight around unnecessarily.
Zardari heads the PPP, a party which has had leaders of international repute like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, people with political acumen who had their finger on the pulse of the nation. Political leaders cannot afford to be seen to be going against the tide. Politics has no place for people who want to run a party like a Vadera, who feels proud to be called one and wants to be portrayed as one.
It is too soon after coming into power to be isolated from your constituency and be surrounded by psychophants and courtiers, who nod their heads and dare not speak the truth. It was expected of Zardari to use his newly acquired status with discretion and care. His choice of controversial appointments in KPT, PIAC, Planning Commission etc will haunt him in days to come.
