25 Jul, 2008

First International Mango Festival is going to start on Friday at Shah Jahan Marriage Hall. The three-day festival would continue from July 25 to 27. District Nazim Multan, Mian Faisal Mukhtar told this in a press conference here on Thursday.
Telling the schedule of the festival, Faisal Mukhtar said that this is the first festival of its kind in Pakistan and the main purpose of this festival is to promote the mango of Pakistan in international market. This festival is organised mutually by Pakistan and Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This festival was scheduled last year too but it was cancelled.
Faisal Mukhtar said that during these days, mango orchard owners would discuss their problems and issues and then recommendations would be made in different sessions. Later these recommendations will be forwarded to government to take further action. He said that about 30 stalls are displayed in the festival and all the major exportable varieties would be displayed. "About 300 people from 9 different countries are participating in the festival," he added.
He said that reasonable benefits would be achieved by this festival for the betterment of mango industry. He said that on the first day, only foreign delegations would visit the festival. On the second day, it would be opened for public and on the last day shields and prizes would be given to the stall-holders.
Faisal Mukhtar further said that we also have a plan in the pipeline to hold a cotton festival in winter after this event. DCO Multan, Fazeel Asghar said while talking with Business Recorder that tight security arrangements have been made for the festival and we hope that the festival would be a successful event.
