Rs 540 million allocated for treatment of kidney patients

Up to Rs 540 million has been reserved in the budget 2008-09 for the treatment of the poor kidney patients, whereas new dialyses centres would be set up in the province to treat dialyses patients.
Minister for Population Welfare Punjab Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry said on Wednesday that those dedicating their lives and resources for social welfare services were the assets of the society and the government would cooperate and help them.
She said the role of philanthropists and donors would be activated while NGOs would also be encouraged in this regard so that standardised health care facilities could be provided to the masses. She told the medical community to maintain highest standard of honesty and integrity and serve the patients with devotion. She also urged philanthropists to donate for the cause.
