Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad has said that the "service structure of paramedics was being improved in the government sector as they are the lynchpin of the infrastructure of every hospital." He added that new District Headquarter Hospitals (DHQ) were being set up in Narowal, Lodharan, Multan and Nankana Sahib.
Additionally, Ahmad announced that Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals (THQs) would be established at Sharqpur and Ferozewala, district Sheikhupura, Sarai-Alamgir, district Gujrat, Qaidabad, district Khushab, Sangla Hill and Shahkot, district Nankana Sahib, Kot Radha Kishan, district Kasur, Chak Jhumra, district Faisalabad, Darya Khan, district Bhakkar and Jatoi, district Muzaffargarh.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednsday, the provincial minister announced that work-charge employees of the hospitals would be made permanent. He said that the PPP was a workers party and therefore it believed in their welfare and considered power a means of serving the poor."Keeping in view the importance of paramedics, it has been planned that paramedic colleges will be set up at Kasur and Gujranwala with the funds provided by philanthropists," he announced.
Ahmad maintained that an all-out effort was being made to improve the living conditions of the masses by providing them healthcare facilities. He said Rs 820 million had been allocated in the development programme 2008-09 for the upgrading and setting up of 32 new THQ's and DHQ's.
