The Awami Jamhoori Tehreek (AJT), alliance of left-wing political parties has announced to support a strike announced by the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) on September 1 vis-à-vis the reinstatement of the deposed judges. The purpose of the strike is to give August 31 as a deadline to the government for the restoration of pre-November 3rd,2007, judiciary.
Tehreek Convenor, Abid Hassan Manto, told a press conference, attended by Rasool Baksh Palejo, on Wednesday that the government must do a check-and-balance job on profits of oil companies and take people into confidence on tax rates on oil.
Meanwhile, he also demanded the government to restore the subsidies and implement the Seventh Wage Board Award and abolish the contract system. He also demanded that United Nations' s peace keeping forces should be deployed on Afghan border to maintain peace.
He said the government should start negotiations with the local people, in tribal region, to resolve the issues amicably, instead using force against them. He then condemned the closing of schools by the Taliban in the tribal areas, saying the economic condition in the areas under the control of the Taliban was poor and accused them of destroying the tourism industry.
