Punjab may launch Food Stamp scheme from August 14

The chairman, Task Force of Punjab chief minister, S.A. Hameed, addressing a press conference here on Wednesday said that through money order facility Rs 1,000 help through Food Stamp Program would be accorded to two million deserving families in the province from August 14, 2008.
He said under special instructions from Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif opposition members were also having their due share in the scheme. Referring to authenticity of the procedure of the scheme, he said in 35 districts the vigilance committees had been formed to monitor the scheme.
The Task Force Chairman said that it was for the first time in the history of the scheme that public representatives, councillors, employees of union council, religious scholars and social workers had been activated in preparation of the lists.
He said in second phase of the scheme under the chairmanship of DCO, teams of revenue, education and agriculture would prepare lists. For finalisation of lists, provincial supervision teams, led by secretaries in order to check the lists would go to districts. Then the lists through computer On-line Pakistan would be sent to post offices.
