PHMA concerned over e-filing defects

01 Aug, 2008

Chairman Sales Tax Committee of Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA), Saleem Parekh has expressed concern over the increasing complaints from the members against the e-filing defects.
He told Business Recorder on Thursday that despite the PHMA members have filled sales tax returns through the electronic filing systems and received proper e-receipts, the FBR's concerned collectorate have showed them as non-filers on its records.
He said that the system has created problems for the taxpayers and it contains defects, which needed to be sorted out immediately. The FBR in Finance Bill 2008-09 made the filing of sales tax return mandatory through electronic filing systems, which was earlier compulsory for corporate sector and LTU registered taxpayers only, he said.
Parekh expressed concern that the electronic system for tax will scale down interaction between the taxpayers and the concerned department. He said that the system is also bringing about delays of the sales tax returns on the boards' database.
