The arrangements for two-day "Environment Asia-2008" comprising an international conference and exhibition, would be held here on August 19. Chief Organiser of the event, Mian Fazal Ahmad, disclosed this in a meeting of the organising committee that was held to review the preparations of the event here on Thursday.
English periodical "The Development Times" in collaboration with Chemical Engineering Department, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore and Engineers Study Forum is organising the event. Board of Investment, Government of Pakistan, Pakistan Environment Protection Agency (PEPA) and Industrial Information Network (IIN) of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) are also extending co-operation in conducting the event.
According to Mian Fazal Ahmad, the major aim of this event is to share international best practices and technologies to control environment pollution with policy makers in the country. Finding a wider scope for environment control technology in Pakistan, the multinational companies, apart from a large number of national concerns, are taking special interest for participation in the exhibition to be held on this occasion.
In the conference renowned national and international environment experts will read their papers, which will cover the impact of the current industrial and social pollution in Pakistan, and advising international ways and means to control the issue in a cost effective manner," he added. He said the organisers are going to invite Asif Ali Zardar, Co-Chairperson, Pakistan Peoples Party as an expert chief guest to inaugurate the event.
