Gilani, Rajapaksa discuss bilateral ties

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani had a meeting with President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa. He congratulated the government of Sri Lanka for hosting the 15th SAARC Summit. The Prime Minister said that Pakistan had excellent relations with Sri Lanka. Pakistan fully supported sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, he added.
He stated that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka and looked forward to enhance the goodwill between the two countries by deepening co-operation in economic, commercial, investment, defence, educational and cultural fields.
On the bilateral front, they stressed the need to enhance trade, investment and tourism. They also affirmed their resolve to fight terrorism. The two leaders appreciated the multifaceted progress made by SAARC in recent years. They noted with satisfaction that Pakistan and Sri Lanka were working closely to promote regional co-operation under SAARC. The Prime Minister underlined the need to focus on the pressing issues of food and energy security.
