Sindh University vice chancellor inaugurates library for Asian studies

The Area Study Centre, Far East and Southeast Asia at the University of Sindh has set-up a library with a unique collection of books on the region, says the Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Mazahar-ul-Haq Siddiqui.
Speaking here on Friday, he inaugurated the library while a large number university scholars, Directors of Teaching Centres and Institutes, Department Chairs, professors and sectional heads of different administrative departments were present.
The Director of the Far East and Southeast Asia Centre, Dr Lutfullah Mangi said that the library is amongst the best libraries of the country, comprising books on political, cultural, social and economic aspects of South Asian countries. Dr Mangi further added that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) funded Rs 2.2 Million for the Center, used for civil works and furniture in the set up of the library. He said that the HEC has also approved Rs 19 Million for scholarships under faculty development program for human resource development.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Dean Faculty of Pharmacy Dr Abdullah Dayo, Director Sindh Development Study Center Dr Abida Tahrian and Director Pakistan Study Center Dr Khalida Jamali, attended the inauguration. Also present were noted scholars Dr M. Y Khuhawer, Professor Ghulam Hussain Khaskheli, Registrar Muhammad Saleh Rajar, Provost Boys Hostel Dr M. Siddique Kalhoro, Controller of Examinations Dr Parvez Pathan and others.
