A Frontier Corps (FC) soldier was gunned down while his two colleagues sustained injuries when unknown assailants opened fire at them here on Alamo Chawk, in jurisdiction of Bijli Road police station, on Sunday evening, police sources told APP.
The victim has been identified as Ghulam Abbas who received severe bullet wounds from close range and succumbed to his injuries on way to the civil hospital. One injured has been identified as Niamatullah while name of the other injured could not be ascertained.
They were shifted to the civil hospital and later moved to CMH Quetta cantonment for treatment, a doctor in the hospital said, adding one of the injured received bullet wound on his upper right chest and stated his condition to have a mere chance of survival while the condition of the other injured was stated to be stable.
The FC men were coming to the city on their vehicle when some unknown armed men on a motorcycle sprayed them with bullets. The assailants managed to flee from the scene and succeeded in evading arrest.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after the incident and took the FC men to the civil hospital. Police have cordoned off the area and started search of the attackers.
