Nadra chairman resigns, Irshad likely to assume charge

The Chairman National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) has resigned, while Irshad Hakeem will be the new Chairman of the Authority. According to official sources, the Chairman Nadra tendered his resignation to Interior Ministry on this Monday.
The Ministry of Interior sent the summary of his resignation to Prime Minister. The official sources said that Prime Minister has approved his resignation. The sources said that Irshad Hakeem, who is a businessman, will be the new chairman of the Authority. The notification to this effect will be issued shortly. Brigadier Saleem Moeen (retd) took charge as Chairman Nadra in August 2001. During his tenure he launched computerised National Identity Card project in October 2001.
Meanwhile, Nadra computerised 3,700 union councils across the country, introduced Machine Readable Passport, won two contracts from Kenya and Bangladesh for computerisation of National Identity Card and driving license respectively. His contract is going to expire in August 2009, however, he resigned due to personal reasons.
