Rally staged against Aafia's detention, shifting to US

High Court Bar Association HCBA Multan and people of civil society on Friday staged a demonstration as a protest against the detention and shifting of Dr Aafia Siddiqui to United States. The demo was led by HCBA President Mehmood Ashraf Khan and Rana Naved, General Secretary, District President of Tehrik-i-Insaf Younas Ghazi, PML-N (women wing) leader Afsheen Butt.
The rally was attended by more than 200 people. Lawyers shouted slogans against the Government and Pervez Musharraf and demanded immediate release of all the detenus of Guantanamo including Dr Afia Siddiqui.
Mehmood Ashraf Khan said,"Military Intelligence (MI) detained Dr Aafia Siddiqui and her three children in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on March 30, 2003 and then handed her over to United States-based agencies." "If Aafia was genuinely a criminal, she should be allowed to defend her case," Mehmood Ashraf said. Dr Siddiqui is under trial in New York, accused of al Qaeda involvement and attempting to kill FBI agents while detained in Afghanistan.
