'Fata MNAs in favour of impeachment'

10 Aug, 2008

The members of National Assembly from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) are in favour of impeachment move as they perceive it a step to strengthen democratic institutions of the country. Member of the National Assembly from Frontier Regions of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan, Engineer Zafar Baig Bittani expressed his views during an interview with this news agency on Saturday.
He said the coalition government led by PPP should have initiated the move soon after placing themselves in the saddles of power. "Charge sheet against President Pervez Musharraf is based on facts, and especially after the November 3 step, it was imperative for the democratic forces to buttress each other to save pillars of state," he emphasised. Responding to another question, he suggested that it would be more effective, if the issue of restoration of deposed judges was tackled prior to this move.
Bittani said the November 3 step by the President was unconstitutional and is sufficient to initiate the impeachment process. "State organs function more smoothly and in a coherent way if there is nexus among all the institutes within the Constitutional parameters, the current situation should be tackled in peaceful manner rather giving way to tug of war," he observed.
He said tribesmen always want a stable, prosperous and democratic country and will support all such moves, which would achieve these goals. He called upon the ruling coalition to take unanimous stance on other important national issues as well and foil machinations of those who were manoeuvring to create dissension among the coalition government.
