Weaving units: workers demand increase in salaries

Hundreds workers of Bakar Mandi and Liaqatabad industrial area have observed complete strike and staged protest demonstration on Jhang Road, blocked traffic and set on fire two factories as a mark of protest against Labour Department and weaving factory owners for non-acceptance of their demands.
According to details, about five hundred workers of weaving units staged sit-in on Jhang Road near Bakkar Mandi and staged protest demonstration and demanded immediate increase in their salaries. Protestors blocked the traffic for two hours, while police reached there and lathi charged and dispersed them.
Meanwhile, the protestors took out procession and moved into the industrial area and some miscreants attacked on Sitara Weaving Factory and Safique Weaving Factory set on fire. Owners of the Factories in retaliation, to save their factories started arial firing. However, in clash, three Owners Azeem, Talah, Muhammad Shafique and six workers injured. Police along with fire brigade reached on the spot and encircled the ill-fated area. According to Police, during disturbance, two motorcycles, two weaving factories were burnt, tension still existing in the area.
