Impeachment move aimed at putting an end to dictatorship: Nawaz

15 Aug, 2008

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said that impeachment move against President is not against Pervez Musharraf rather it is against dictatorship which caused great harm to the country as well as nation.
Addressing a gathering of his party activists at Badshahi Mosque, Nawaz said that dictatorship not only lost the country's 33 years, but also caused great harm to the country through abrogation of constitution, putting country's sovereignty at stake and giving poverty, price hike and lawlessness to the people. He said: "We should think that after getting independence from British rule, army dictatorship ruled the country for 33 years and instead of putting in place a true democratic order, a few Generals established their rule".
Nawaz said that Pakistani nation needs not to worry because we would not only get rid off dictatorship forever but also save the country. He however, said people are worried over situation in Balochistan, Fata, tribal areas and escalating price hike which is forcing some people to commit suicides.
About giving safe passage to Pervez Musharraf, Nawaz said that Pervez Musharraf had written in his book that he (Musharraf) sold Pakistanis to the US and earned dollars. "Musharraf needs to apprise the nation that how much dollars were earned and where these are lying. Just wait. How the nation can give a safe passage to the person, who annulled the constitution, violated the law and put the country's sovereignty at stake, he questioned.
Regarding his recent meeting with Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz said Asif Zardari had assured that judges would be restored in accordance with Murree Declaration soon after impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf. However, he said that the PML-N's 4 ministers had rejoined the federal cabinet on the insistence of Asif Ali Zardari. He added that all the PML-N ministers would rejoin the federal cabinet after judges' restoration and afterward would work for the implementation of agenda of public welfare besides the implementation of Charter of Democracy (CoD).
Talking about the Kashmir issue, Nawaz said that killings and atrocities on Kashmiris are not India's internal matter rather it is also an issue of Pakistan and India must stop oppression in Kashmir. He further said that Pakistan wanted good relations with India but the latter should resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with aspirations of Kashmiri people.
Nawaz also praised Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif for working day and night in accordance with the wishes of public. He also said that he did not believe in revenge and had already set aside what was happened with him. Nawaz concluded his speech by raising the slogans of Pakistan Zindabad. On the occasion, emotionally charged PML-N activists chanted full-throated slogans of "Go Musharraf Go" and Quaid-e-Islam Nawaz Sharif.
Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said that not only impeachment of Pervez Musharraf would be made but also he would be held accountable for his misdeeds. He said judiciary will also be restored and daughters of Pakistan who were given to the US would be brought back.
PML-N Punjab President and Senior Advisor to CM, Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa, Punjab Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, PML-N MNAs, MPAs and party leaders were also present on the occasion.
Stringent security measures were adopted by the law-enforcing agencies and entry in Badshahi Mosque premises were allowed only after thorough checking. Earlier, Nawaz visited the Mazar of Hazrat Allama Iqbal. He laid floral wreath and also offered Fateha for the eternal peace of great philosopher and poet of the East.
