May I refer to the news on page 3 of Business Recorder of August 7, under the above caption. According to it the rise in the LPG price by Parco is from Rs 39.809 to Rs 43.775 per kg weight. This roundly is about Rs 4 per kg. Imagine the profiteering propensity of our people.
Every taxi driver is bluffing that the LPG price has gone up to Rs 80 per kg, and hence his demand for the increase. No taxi driver anymore goes by the fare meter but quotes figure of between 100 a 180 for as small a distance as 6/7 kilometres.
It amounts to charging/ demanding fare at the rate of 14 or Rs 26 per kilometre. Look at the two-fold bluffing - claiming that his taxi operates on LPG, and that the LPG price has gone up to Rs 80 per kg. There must surely be some law to control taxi drivers' unbridled profiteering at the commuters' expense.
